ELAN Home Systems - A Rich History of Innovation

Located in Lexington, Ky., ELAN Home Systems has designed innovative, award-winning multi-room audio/video and home control systems since 1989. ELAN systems were the first to seamlessly combine music, TV and telephone-based features such as intercom and paging to create a new kind of whole-house entertainment and communications experience. These “systems” allowed people to move room to room, controlling and accessing centrally located audio and video equipment with ease, and providing indispensable in-home communications for everyday living.
Today, ELAN has become one of the largest companies in custom complete home systems, with distribution in 58 countries worldwide, and nearly 30 technology patents. Since a management-led buyout from the Square D Company in 1995, ELAN has experienced over 700 percent sales growth, and has delivered nearly 600 different products to market. ELAN’s management team has a collective 400 years of audio and video industry experience.
In 2000, ELAN introduced its VIA!® Touch Panel, the very first stand-alone touch screen with live video capabilities, meaning that it could double as a TV or a viewing monitor – say, to see who is at the front door. Since then, touch-friendly controls have become the latest in convenience for homeowners, and today ELAN has the most compelling, comprehensive and consistently reliable line of controls to suit the individual needs of its customers.
In January 2003, after a search for new investors by ELAN’s management and original investors,
Nortek, Inc., acquired ELAN. Nortek is a leading manufacturer and distributor of building, remodeling and indoor environmental control products for residential and commercial markets. As part of Nortek’s portfolio of home electronics companies, ELAN now has access to greater capital, manufacturing expertise, and engineering and marketing presence to further growth.
In 2005,
Sunfire, a leading manufacturer of luxury home theater products joined our family of brands, leading to the creation of the ELAN Group – a group of Nortek-owned companies specializing in high-end home systems , and presided over by ELAN’s President, CEO and co-founder, Bob Farinelli. The ELAN Group currently consists of ELAN, Sunfire and
HomeLogic. Homelogic was aquired in 2007 and is a leading manufacturer of IP-based home control systems. Their products bring an awesome set of new home system features including scheduling of home events, outdoor pool, spa and irrigation controls, home energy and management features and more. Together, these three companies provide an unprecedented level of product offerings, expertise and support that deliver the complete home experience.
Through the years, ELAN has succeeded by providing industry-best support to authorized Dealers who market ELAN systems to their customers – and by providing a regular flow of innovative, user-friendly, award-winning products that can be scaled to suit all customers.
ELAN’s products include simple-to-use whole-house controls, indoor and outdoor speakers, multi-room audio and video systems, wire management systems, intercom systems, video surveillance systems, entertainment products, and much more.
ELAN systems are often featured in showcase homes around the country. Architects, designers and builders are adding these kinds of products to the home to provide the customer with more lifestyle benefits, to increase the value of the home, and to compete with other homes for the customer’s attention.
ELAN works with authorized and trained Residential Systems Providers to market, sell, and support our products. The company does not sell directly to customers. Just like your architect or home builder, it is best to involve a knowledgeable person who is authorized to sell the products with consulation, design, implemention and support of your system to achieve the best results.
