LEED Certified Smart Home Control System

LEED Certified Green Home

The owners of this 1940’s Hamptons cottage lost everything to Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Forced to completely rebuild, they decided to create an energy-efficient home, one so energy efficient that it would be certified LEED Platinum. They named their project the “Sunset Green Home” and selected ELAN for its ability to seamlessly integrate all subsystems, plus its ultimate ease of use through touchpanels, remotes and even mobile phones and tablets. “I’m an energy-efficiency professional for my day job, so I’m a bit of an energy nerd. I love the idea that I can go into my ELAN system and I can see how efficiently our energy systems are working,” said homeowner Kim Erle. “These are all systems that have to function together,” continues Erle, “and that’s one of the reasons we chose the ELAN system. It allows us not only to monitor, but also to control the multiple systems that are contributing to the efficiency of this house.

Even though using less energy, the systems are improving the comfort of the home and improving the quality of life while living there, from controlling shades on the abundant south-facing windows to providing Intercom for in-home and out-of-home communication, to managing the SpeakerCraft multi-room audio. Concludes Erle, “because we have the ELAN automation system, we are building a home of today and tomorrow.”

Note: Sunset Green Home is a sustainable, energy-efficient new home construction project registered through the LEED® for Homes Green Building Program with the certification goal of LEED platinum. The LEED certification program is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings.

“Because we have the ELAN automation system, we are building a home of today and tomorrow.”
